The University of Winnipeg Library invites applications for a twelve-month Librarian position. The appointment is effective September 1, 2005 and is subject to budgetary approval. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities: The University of Winnipeg Library offers a stimulating academic environment with a full range of print and electronic resources. This position is concentrated in public service to a user community made up of faculty and students in the major Arts and Science disciplines, as well as to the wider community of Winnipeg. Duties and responsibilities of the position will include service at the Reference Desk, provision of Information Literacy training to undergraduate classes, development of research and study guides for inclusion on the Library website, participation in collection development and evaluation, and related duties and responsibilities. Librarians at the University of Winnipeg are encouraged to conduct research and related scholarly activities, maintain currency in library trends and developments (including participation in professional associations), and make the results of their research and professional work accessible to the University and wider audiences.

This is a .9 position, twelve-month term, that includes evening public service. Subject to budgetary approval the term may be renewable.

Qualifications: Applicants must have an undergraduate degree and an MLS/MLIS degree (or equivalent graduate degree in the field of Library & Information Studies) from an accredited university. The successful candidate will have a strong background in the provision of reference service in an undergraduate university environment utilizing electronic and print resources, including experience in teaching library and information literacy skills to undergraduates. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to participate in library committees, possess computer and Internet application skills, and be comfortable working in a collegial atmosphere. Experience in cataloguing serials is an asset
